In January 2007, an Exception Review
process was implemented to cut down on the costs ConnPACE incurs for
medications deemed non-formulary by the Medicare Part D Plans. Pharmacy
Technicians within the Department work on the claims submitted to ConnPACE
for payment when the Medicare Part D Plan has indicated that a drug is
non-formulary.
The Pharmacy Technicians work with the physicians, pharmacies, and
Prescription Drug Plans to get exceptions and prior authorizations for these
non-formulary medications. ConnPACE stands by all quantity limit
restrictions the Part D Plans have enforced.
